Advertising Information There are many ways to advertise your book, but the first step should be defining your audience. Who is going to buy your book? This is crucial, because once Biblio makes your book available to booksellers, you need to send your audience to buy copies otherwise they will sit on shelves and ultimately be returned. Once you know the who, consider the how. How will you let your audience know about your book and motivate them to buy a copy? What is your budget? How will you allocate the money? Consider reading one of the books listed on our resources page. Advertising to your niche market should be your first priority. We do offer discounted rates for trade advertising (see below), but don't advertise to booksellers at the exclusion of consumers. Here are a few ideas to get you started: BookSense and their Advance Access program will offer you the opportunity to get your book into the hands of booksellers, and as a Biblio publisher the $100 fee is waived. Read more. Publishers Marketing Association offers several marketing opportunities to their members, including target mailings to libraries, as well as category specific mailings. To learn more go to http://pma-online.org/programs.cfm. Instead of starting at the top of the advertising food chain with ads in USA Today and the like, consider smaller, more focused venues. For example, your title if about legal issues, perhaps contact state bar associations who accept ads in their newsletters. The audience is far more likely to be interested in your title and ad rates are considerably cheaper. Direct mail is another tool. If you have an audience there is likely a mailing list for sale or rent to reach them. Direct Marketing Association is one place to start, but consider renting from magazines or organizations that interest your audience. The better you know your audience, the better able you will be to reach them.
