Biblio Publishers Frequently Asked Questions
Accounting

The parantheses () indicate the corresponding section of the contract, if applicable.

(9) What is a "stock transfer fee"?
Anytime you ask us to move your inventory from our warehouse to another location and it's not as a result of a sale we've made, we charge a stock transfer fee. For example, you may need 60 books sent to your office for promotional use-that would be a stock transfer.

(10) How do all the percentages work? Who gets what percentage of the retail price?
The margins are very, very narrow in this industry. Distributors "get" 60-70 percent and more of the list price because they resell to wholesalers and retailers who demand discounts of from 40-60 percent of list. Biblio's contract is very reasonable and competitive. The full retail price breaks down as follows: publishers working with us receive 40 percent of the retail price of the book, regardless of the percentage we give our accounts, the accounts receive an average of 50% and Biblio receives approximately 10%.

Ex: For a $10 book, publishers receive $4, stores receive an average of $5 and Biblio receives $1.

(13) Why does it take so long for me to get paid?
Because it takes that long for us to get paid by the customer-many of our accounts take 120 to 150 days, and longer to pay us for the books.

(14) What is the "reserve" amount held for?
This amount is held to cover returns, which can come back at any time. We are responsible for refunding the money to the account, so we must hold some money back from you in case your books are returned.

(20) What happens if I terminate the contract?
The important thing to remember is that once we announce you're leaving Biblio, our accounts have one year to return your books to us for full credit (this is standard in the industry). So, even after you terminate, you will continue to have a financial relationship with us for one year. It is very common for the accounts to return all of your books and then re-order them from your new distributor, so it can be an expensive process for all of us.
